Jake's stan list
Ranking of my favorite artists, and people whose music have made the biggest impact on me.

Lana del rey
The self-proclaimed “Gangsta Nancy Sinatra” has become synonymous with rose-crowned, heavily lashed, Old Hollywood allure. She's Ethereal, maybe. Or haunting. Those are the first words that come to my mind. And in a good way. I've no idea how she does it, but hearing her voice transition from girly, innocent to sultry, jazzy, "femme fatale" makes me fucking ecstatic. The way she modulates and controls those shifts is mesmerizing. I just love the wide variety she has displayed so far. Every album has its own unique sound, and I love every one of them for different reasons.
Lorde
Lorde chose her stage name because she was fascinated with "royals and aristocracy". Her music is noted for its "counter-culture" view on themes found on modern pop culture, which is contrasted with those from her contemporaries. Lorde's voice is the alpha and omega of her talent. She has the presence and vocal development of singers more than twice her age. Her voice isn't booming or overpowering, but rather mystifying and alluring, both floating on its own in a sea of reverb and digital blips and awash in an army of chorused overdubs.

Ariana grande
A television star turned pop diva, Ariana Grande emerged in the mid-2010s as an heir to the throne of Mariah Carey. Blessed with powerful vocals that belied her petite frame, Grande had greater singing chops than many of her peers. Encompassing an already packed career, she explores all sides of her sound, from dance queen to lounge singer.
twenty one pilots
Twenty One Pilots are one of the hardest-to-categorize hit acts in years, mixing angsty lyrics, Macklemore-style rhymes, Ben Folds–like piano pop, 311-ish reggae beats, hard-rock energy and the occasional ukulele ballad. Onstage, Joseph plays bass, piano and uke when he’s not stalking around in smeared makeup and a bondage mask. Dun, a chilled-out former skater with an easy grin and gauges in his ears, helps them sound like a band, triggering prerecorded backing tracks as he plays. It’s a seemingly odd combination that makes total sense to their fan base.

Special mentions
Paramore, Kali Uchis, St. Vincent, SZA, Charli XCX, Rex Orange County, Troye Sivan, Taylor Swift, SOPHIE, Rihanna
